Mzimuni Primary School is located on the South-East border of rural Arusha and is home to several Maasai communities.
Mzimuni teachers explained to Made with Hope that inhabitants of the area have historically not engaged in educational matters, primarily due to a combination of Maasai ideologies and low income. However, after seeing neighbouring children’s achievements, along with the mixture of other tribes within the area, this is gradually starting to change.
Mzimuni Primary School has only 6 Classrooms, 10 dilapidated toilets and 148 desks for over 629 pupils.

How we’re supporting Mzimuni students
Our partnership with Mzimuni community began in 2020 and we are actively supporting this school with the following four programmes:
Let Us Learn: School builds
Still to do: Repair existing classrooms and build additional classrooms
Still to do: Build kitchen and dining room facilities
Water Is Life: Clean water
Completed: 8 x 5,000 litre rain water harvesting tanks installed
Still to do: Install 10 more 5,000 litre water tanks
Transparency Truth: It only costs around £380 (Sept2022) to buy a 5,000 litre tank which can last a school for one month
Being Well: Health
Completed: New handwashing stations (14 taps) and a sustainable educational hand washing programme.
Girl Empowerment: Education for girls
Completed: Menstrual Hygiene Management Project which included educating all students and over 120+ parents and teachers. We also provided all menstruating girls with reusable sanitary products.
