One Kind Act Rainwater Harvesting Update

Our partner schools are located in remote disadvantaged villages where there is no water supply. Students are not able to flush the toilet, wash their hands or have any water to drink at school.  The impact of having no water is a major risk for students health. For example, as students cannot flush the toilet it can cause students to gain urinary tract infections. The water that local residents and school staff manage to collect is often groundwater. However, in the Arusha region, the water is hard to come by and is naturally high in fluoride - over 5 times the WHO recommended level! It poses a risk to primary school-aged children’s teeth, bones and brain development.

Thanks to One Kind Act

In October 2019 One Kind Act awarded Made With Hope a grant to address this issue. We used these funds to to build 21 new rainwater harvesting tanks across 4 schools, creating a rainwater harvesting capacity of over 100,000 litres! We installed 7 tanks across CHETI Primary and CHETI Secondary, 8 at Maweni Primary and 6 at Mshikamano Primary. In total, these new tanks have benefited 1,500 students.  We’ve created an interactive map so that our donors can see exactly where the tanks they funded have been built, and can see a photo of them in situ!
