Project Complete: 9 classroom renovation
9 classrooms renovated
Attendance dramatically improved
406 students empowered
9 teachers happier
In 2021 we began to transform Marurani Primary School to help give the 406 students there an education they deserved. Marurani school was so run down. The classrooms were overcrowded, falling down, dirty and were quite a miserable environment to learn in. As much as the teachers and students wanted to learn, the conditions were so poor. The rains poured in and soaked the students during lessons, the floors were broken and a serious trip hazard and the roofs were falling down. Action needed to be taken quickly before this school was closed down due to the risk to students’ safety.
The need at Marurani Primary School
After meeting with the community, we identified the need to renovate the 9 classrooms at Marurani to prevent the school from closure and create a conducive learning environment for the students and teachers.
Team effort: Community collaboration
Over 50 parents and community members got involved in providing some free labour hours to help make this project possible. This also gave the community a real sense of ownership of the project which will really help to make it sustainable.
Completed Classrooms
With the amazing support from the Ashworth Charitable Trust and Seth, Max and India we were able to transform 9 classrooms into an inspiring, safe and comfortable space with enough desks for each child, a new blackboard and windows that stop the rain and dust from coming in.
