Muungano Primary School has 511 and is located in a rural village in Arusha students. It is facing many challenges such as dangerous toilets for boys and girls, lack of water, and poor condition of classrooms.
The classrooms are in poor condition that does not make for a comfortable learning environment as the children get wet when it rains because there are no windows.
Girls are not regularly attending school whilst on their period. This means that they’re missing up to 45 days of school a year which is dramatically effecting their education.
Although the school has a rain water harvesting tank, it is not providing a sufficient amount of water meaning the school cannot be kept clean and there is limited water for drinking.

How we’re supporting Muungano students
Our partnership began in 2020, and we are actively supporting this school with the following four programmes:
Being Well: Health
Completed: Construction of hand washing facilities (14 taps) and education programme about hygiene
Still to do: Construction of school kitchen snd establishment of school gardening and feeding programme
Girl Empowerment: Education for girls
Still to do: Construct 10 girls toilets and 2 boys toilets. Implement a Menstrual Hygiene Management Project, including reusable menstruation products, for 60+ girls
Water Is Life: Clean Water
Still to do: Install 15 rain water harvesting tanks and guttering to provide clean water.
Transparency Truth: It only costs around £380 (Sept 2022) to purchase one 5,000 litre tank which can collect enough rain water to last the school around a month.
